Jo Burzynska

Jo provides informal, fun and informative classes that will demystify the often complex world of wine. The sessions will be based around tasting's of at least six well-selected wines, with discussion and participation encouraged. The classes will appeal to a broad spectrum of wine lovers from the novice to those with some wine knowledge.

Specific classes for beginners will also be offered, these will concentrate on helping notice drinkers get more out of their glass of wine, through helping them to develop tasting technique and basic knowledge of style and grapes that will help them define their preferences and become more confident.

Jo will recommend the wines for our cooking classes. Jo will be available for private group or corporate sessions.

Further Information

Jo was born in the UK; a country while not famed for its wine production, nevertheless has one of the greatest selections of the world's wines of any nation. It was here that Jo discovered her love of wine and developed this interest into a career.As a wine writer Jo has been able to travel to most of the world's wine growing regions, but the one whose wines, scenery and people kept her coming back time after time was New Zealand. In January 2004 Jo and her filmmaker husband Paul decided to settle in Oxford where she continues her wine writing and now the teaching career.

• International wine writer, who before the age of 30 had already been short listed for Wine Writer of the year in both the UK's prestigious Glenfiddich and Prix du Champagne Lanson awards.

• Experienced wine educator, having run a number of highly successful wine courses and clubs in the UK, on a mission to demystify wine and increase wine's enjoyment for the novice to the connoisseur.

• A career almost entirely devoted to wine, from managing a wine shop in London to working for a Marlborough winery, as well as many years as a highly respected wine writer.

• Past positions including that of Editor at the international Drinks Buyer magazine group and Associate Editor of Supplements at Harpers Wine & Spirit Weekly, with freelance wine and food writing for national newspapers and magazines in the UK.

• New Zealand columnist for the UK's leading professional wine magazine Harpers Wine & Spirits Weekly, as well as a regular contributor to international magazines such as Wine & Spirit International and domestic publication Wine NZ.

• International wine judge for competitions such as the International Wine Challenge and International Wine & Spirit Competition, and as an associate judge for New Zealand's main wine competitions.
• Member of the Circle of Wine Writers.
